HUMAN
HUMAN: belong, believe, become was the yearlong theme at Quest Church in 2019. For this project I wanted to capture the beauty of diversity, the multifaceted layers of our humanity, and the interconnectedness of community.
I worked with a local photographer, Brandon Hill, to capture headshots of a diverse group of members from Quest. We used torn pieces of paper to represent the fragility and multifaceted layers of humanity. The super imposed images of two faces were used to visualize the shared commonality of the human experience, as well as the need for community.
This new theme needed to be created and displayed in several different formats. Photo based images were created for the website, social media, slide presentations, and outdoor banners. A text based graphic was created for any printing done in-house, and for the mural in the main lobby. Lastly, shirts were designed for all the volunteers at Quest.
The hand in the shirt design is based on greek orthodox iconography. The fingers spell out “IC XC”, a widely used four letter abbreviation of the Greek for Jesus Christ. HUMAN is placed in the center of the hand to depict both the humanity and divinity of Jesus. The letters in the bottom left are the Roman numerals for the year, 2019.
